Your HVAC system has an indoor coil, typically called an evaporator coil. This coil is used during the cooling season, and is very damp and dark inside - a perfect breeding ground for mold. A UV lamp is installed in the coil, and toasts any mold that tries to grow, keeping your system running well and avoiding mold spores from being released into your home air.
